Whether it’s a pool, lake, or splash pad, water is a big part of summer fun. It’s also one place where we have to stay especially alert.

The good news is that most water-related incidents are preventable with close supervision and a few simple rules.

Simple Water Safety Habits That Make a Difference:

  • Designate a “water watcher”

When several adults are around, it’s easy to assume someone else is watching. Choosing one person helps avoid that.

  • Put the phone down

It only takes a moment for something to go wrong. Staying fully present matters.

  • Use properly fitted life jackets

Floaties are fun, but they’re not designed for safety. Life jackets help keep kids’ heads above water.

  • Stay within arm’s reach

Especially for younger children, being close means you can respond right away.

  • Slow things down around the pool

Running and wet surfaces don’t mix. Slips can turn serious quickly.

  • Start with simple rules

Teaching kids to ask before going near water builds awareness and good habits.

Water safety really comes down to attention. Staying close and staying focused is what keeps kids safe.
